HC Deb 30 October 1919 vol 120 c867
38. Mr. RAPER

asked the Home Secretary what is being done with all the dossiers collected by various Government Departments during the War, by censorship and/or other means, and relating to the business and private affairs of British firms and individuals?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Forster)

As regards documents of the categories referred to which were collated by the Censorship during the War, I understand that all of these, with the necessary exception of those relating to the national defence or to contraventions of the law, have now been destroyed. As far as documents of these categories have been collated by other Departments of Government, the same principle of selection and retention has been and will be observed. In no case is access permitted to any of these documents save to authorised officials.
