HC Deb 30 October 1919 vol 120 c859
18. Mr. T. W. BROWN

asked the Chief Secretary when he proposes to introduce the Bill dealing with education in Ireland; and whether, pending the introduction of this Bill, he will take steps to have the financial resolutions of the two Committees of Inquiry put into immediate operation?

22. Sir EDWARD CARSON

asked when it is intended to introduce the Bill dealing with education in Ireland?

Mr. MACPHERSON

Owing to Parliamentary exigencies, I regret I cannot at present give a definite date for the introduction of the Bill. As regards the latter part of the question of my hon. Friend and learned Member for North Down, I would ask him to await the Bill, which will state the financial proposals contemplated.

Sir E. CARSON

Having regard to the delay in the introduction of this Bill, can the right hon. Gentleman say whether any steps have been taken, even of a temporary character, to provide elementary education for 15.000 children in Belfast who are receiving none?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I regret that no steps have been taken, but I am hoping that the early introduction of the Bill will provide for these children.
