HC Deb 19 November 1919 vol 121 c890
11. Major DAVID DAVIES

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what proportion of the Naval Estimates is in respect of ships and material for naval war which have been introduced since the outbreak of the great War?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

At the time of the Armistice we were committed to the completion of 1,005 ships for the Royal Navy and its auxiliaries. We have since that time cancelled 611 such ships; we have completed 319 such ships; we are still completing seventy-five such ships, mainly small naval craft and auxiliaries. Since the Armistice we have laid down thirty-one small naval craft and auxiliaries, have cancelled twelve, have completed eight, and are completing eleven.
