HC Deb 19 November 1919 vol 121 cc919-20
75. Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that Lance-Corporal Charles Buchanan, No. 8294, King's Own Scottish Borderers, has been sentenced to twelve, months' imprisonment for desertion; whether he was wounded twice and on recovery was sent home in November, 1915, to work in Fairfied shipbuilding yard; whether he worked there and at Jarrow until 7th July, 1919, when he was arrested and, although no papers could be found relating to him, was sentenced as above; and whether, in view of the conflicting statements and the fact that this man was living at his own home during those four years, and the further fact that he has been wounded, he will cause the remainder of the sentence to be remitted and order his discharge from Barlinnie prison?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Inquiries are being made, and the hon. Member will, in due course, be informed of the result.
