HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 c592
9. Mr. TAYLOR

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the various Scottish Members who were asked to join the Central Board under the Profiteering Act were wholly prevented by the railway strike from attending the first meeting of the Board on the 1st October, and consequently the the various Standing Committees were constituted in the absence of all Scottish representatives; whether he is aware that only 46 members out of 143 were present; and, as no effective administration of the Profiteering Act is possible without adequate representation of Scottish producers, whether he will at once call another meeting of the Central Committee to adjust these deficiencies?

Sir A. GEDDES

I am aware that owing to the railway strike a number of gentlemen who had kindly consented to serve on the Central Committee under the Profiteering Act were, unfortunately, unable to attend the first meeting of the Committee on the 30th September. I would point out as regards the remainder of the question that every member, whether in attendance at the first meeting or not, has been appointed to one or more of the three Standing Committees, including the hon. Members for the Both-well and Springburn Divisions, and nine other gentlemen representing Scottish interests.
