HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 c627
Mr. MACPHERSON

On Thursday last, during question time, and in the course of a series of supplementaries upon a matter which has saddened the hearts of all law-abiding Irishmen, and upon which I naturally feel deeply, I made an interjection which caused resentment in the mind of the hon. and learned Gentleman who sits for South Down (Mr. MacVeagh). I was wrong in thinking that the hon. and learned Gentleman sought to excuse or justify these Sinn Fein outrages or to shield their perpetrators. I, therefore, upon the first available opportunity, beg to withdraw this imputation unreservedly and to apologise to the hon. and learned Gentleman for the injury which I have caused his feelings and also to the Members of this House whose goodwill and forbearance in difficult situations I have always been fortunate to enjoy.
