HC Deb 06 November 1919 vol 120 cc1666-7
46. Mr. AUBREY HERBERT

asked the Prime Minister whether the two parties chiefly concerned were represented on tile Commission inquiring into the events following on the Greek landing at Smyrna; and, if not, whether, in the interests of equity, an orthodox Greek and a Moslem, either Turk or Cretan, will be nominated?

Captain GUEST

The Commission to which the hon. Member refers, and which has, I believe, now finished its work, was appointed by the Supreme Council in Paris. His Majesty's Government accordingly had no independent responsibility for it. I understand, however, that both Greeks and Turks were authorised to appoint a representative on the Commission in a consultative capacity. The Greek Government took advantage of this offer, but I have no information to show what the Turkish did in the matter.
