The following is the statement referred to:

Of these all but the three marked with an asterisk are temporary.

A large amount of clerical assistance is provided by women, about 2,500 in number, of whom 343 (including ninety-four typists) are permanent.

The administrative duties performed vary to some extent, but consist generally in drafting letters and memoranda, passing draft letters, etc., prepared by junior officers, and in minuting cases in the preliminary stages.
