HC Deb 05 November 1919 vol 120 cc1485-6
34. Mr. CROOKS

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that numbers of men are being discharged from the London County Council Central Tramways Repair Depot at Charlton; whether the county council have sought his cooperation in endeavouring to secure the absorption of these men into other employment; and, if not, will he take action in the matter?

Sir R. HORNE

I understand that the discharge is now taking place of about sixty workmen who were engaged at this depot during the War as substitutes for employâs of the Council who were serving in His Majesty's Forces. Arrangements have been made for an officer of the Deptford Employment Exchange to attend at the depot in order to interview the men discharged and to obtain particulars of their industrial qualifications, with a view to finding them suitable employment.
