§ 1. Major COLFOXasked the Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to General Routine Order No. 5,617, dated 11th July, 1919, issued by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Egyptian Expeditionary Force; whether all officers and men who left their outstanding balances of pay with the field disbursing officer were mulcted of 2d. in every rupee so left; whether only twenty days' notice of this readjustment was given, whereas communication by post to and from some outlying stations and officers and men on leave would take longer than twenty days; and whether any steps are to be taken to recompense those who have lost part of their pay through this action?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Montagu)I am inquiring as to the facts. In the meantime I can assure the hon. and gallant Member that any cases of hardship due to postal delays will be sympathetically dealt with.
