HC Deb 27 May 1919 vol 116 cc1021-2
57. Mr. EVELYN CECIL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state, precisely or approximately, what number of Parliamentary electors pay Income Tax out of the total 21,392,322 registered in the United Kingdom?

The CHANCELLOR of the EX- CHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

The total number of persons in the United Kingdom who actually pay Income Tax after all exemptions and reliefs have been allowed is estimated at 3,400,000. It is, however, impossible to relate this figure in any way to the number of Parliamentary electors.
