HC Deb 20 May 1919 vol 116 cc194-5
52. Sir RICHARD COOPER

asked the Prime Minister if he will appoint a small Committee of Members of this House to inspect the hotels of London now occupied by the Government and to report to Parliament on the use to which these buildings are at present put?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Sir Alfred Mond)

As the War Cabinet Committee on Accommodation and the newly appointed War Cabinet Committee on Government Staffs, formed by Sir Auckland Geddes, are now dealing with the subject of the question and as inspections of the hotels are already being made almost daily, I think the hon. Member will agree that it would be a work of supererogation for hon. Members of this House also to devote their time to the matter.

Sir R. COOPER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a large number of the Members of this House do net in the least agree with the policy at present adopted by His Majesty's Government in occupying so many of these hotels at the present time?

Sir F. HALL

Will the right hon. Gentleman give the names of the Members who are going to sit on that Committee to inquire into this matter?

Sir A. MOND

If my hon. Friend will put down a question, I will be very pleased to do so.

Major WOOD

Will the right hon. Gentleman submit the Report of that Committee to this House and give the House an opportunity to consider it?

Sir A. MOND

That is not a matter for me, but for the Leader of the House.

General CROFT

Is it not more important even than the reduction of hotels to reduce all these stags by 50 per cent, at once?
