HC Deb 20 May 1919 vol 116 cc193-4
48. Lieut.-Colonel A. MURRAY

asked the Prime Minister whether he has any official cognisance of an announcement made in the Dominion House of Commons by the President of the Privy Council to the effect that a permanent Canadian representative at Washington is shortly to be appointed; whether any communications on this matter have passed between His Majesty's Government and the Canadian Government during the last two weeks; and, if so, will he state the nature of such communications?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Lieut.-Colonel Amery)

The statement in the Canadian House of Commons to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers was to the effect that the Canadian Government intended to maintain a permanent representative in succession to the present Canadian War Mission at Washington, that the exact form which that permanent representation should take should be a matter of consultation between the Prime Minister of Canada and the Imperial Government, and that the present Mission should continue in existence meanwhile. His Majesty's Government will no doubt receive the views of the Canadian Government on the subject in due course.
