HC Deb 20 May 1919 vol 116 cc167-8
14. Lieut.-Colonel BUCKLEY

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that a large number of men who are eligible for demobilisation are being retained in the Army on cadres of units, in the military foot police, and in other capacities; and if he will have immediate inquiry made into all such cases with a view to their early demobilisation?

Captain GUEST

Cadres are being brought home as rapidly as possible in order that the demobilisable personnel may be released. With regard to the military foot police and other administrative branches of the Service, the personnel of these corps, though eligible for demobilisation, are liable to be temporarily retained as part of the military machinery for demobilisation, until their services can be spared or they can be replaced. Men so retained who are eligible for demobilisation are being replaced as rapidly as possible by those who are not eligible.
