HC Deb 19 May 1919 vol 116 c32
69. Sir B. FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he can give an approximate date when the Report of Admiral Halsey's Committee on the Pay and Pensions of Royal Naval Officers may be expected?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

The Report is now under consideration, and the recommendations of the Board of Admiralty and the decisions of His Majesty's Government will be formulated as expeditiously as possible, but it is not yet practicable to give an approximate date for the publication of the decisions.

Viscount CURZON

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a lieutenant of four years' seniority draws less pay than a chief petty officer?

Dr. MACNAMARA

As the result of the Jerram Committee Report, but obviously it will be our duty to remedy that, and we are getting on as expeditiously as we can.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider making the increase of pay, when granted, retrospective to the same date as the seamen's pay?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I can, of course, give no undertaking about that, as it would be anticipating the decisions, but that is the sort of thing not likely to be overlooked.
