HC Deb 15 May 1919 vol 115 c1749
31. Sir ROBERT NEWMAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether there are old railway employés who have served over forty years and are qualified to retire but are unable to do so owing to the small pension, in some instances only 12s. a week, to which they are entitled; whether the railway companies are unable to grant any increase owing to Government control; and, if so, whether, in consideration of the increase of living, steps will be taken to grant an additional sum to these old employés, which, while enabling them to retire in decent comfort, would by this retirement throw open posts that might be filled by younger men?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Bridgeman)

I am afraid that I cannot add to the reply given on this subject to the Noble Lord the Member for South Nottingham, on the 17th March, of which I am sending the hon. Gentleman a copy.
