HC Deb 15 May 1919 vol 115 cc1749-50
32. Mr. T. W. BROWN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether those men employed by the Commissioners of Irish Lights who have reached the age of sixty years, and who have been awaiting discharge on pension during the past three years, will now be discharged?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I am informed by the Commissioners of Irish Lights that they do not propose to take any steps in this matter until the conclusion of Peace.

33. Mr. BROWN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any increase has been made in the pre-war rate of 1s. 9d. per day victualling allowance made to men living on rock stations in the employment of the Commissioners of Irish Lights; and if, in view of the increased cost of living, he will recommend such an increase in the victualling allowance as will enable these men to cope with the increased cost of provisions?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

No increase has been made in the victualling allowance in question, but these men participate with other employés of the Irish Lights Board in the war bonus sanctioned by the Board of Trade to meet the increased cost of living. The amount of the bonus is that which has been approved from time to time by the Treasury for men in His Majesty's Civil Service.
