HC Deb 15 May 1919 vol 115 cc1766-7
70. Sir HOWELL DAVIES

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the suspension of recruiting, the national register is serving, or likely to serve, any useful purpose; whether he intends to introduce fresh legislation to continue national registration after the conclusion of Peace; and, if not, whether, on the ground of national economy, he will take an early opportunity of introducing a Bill to repeal the National Registration Acts?

Major ASTOR

Immediately after the Armistice, measures were taken to obviate any useless expenditure on the matter referred to in the question. The step suggested in the concluding paragraph of the question seems unnecessary, since without special legislation the Act will automatically cease to operate on the termination of the War.
