§ 61. Brigadier-General WIGANasked the Food Controller if he will state the total amount of the moneys remaining in the hands of the State as a result of dealing in British wheat while under control after all expenses have been paid?
Mr. ROBERTSThe Government deals with British wheat only through the flour mills which it controls. The mills sell all flour at a subsidised price in order to produce a 9d. loaf, and no profit, but a substantial loss is made on the transaction.
§ Mr. BILLINGIn this loss is the wheat that has been sent by the Government to Germany taken into consideration and written off?
Mr. DEPUTY-SPEAKERClearly that sort of supplementary question is only wasting time. Will the hon. Member be good enough to take the trouble to hand in questions of that kind?
§ Mr. BILLINGThis is a distinct question as to whether certain moneys have been made out of it. Presumably the Minister looks up the full facts and he will have this in mind.
Mr. DEPUTY-SPEAKERIt is really not fair to other hon. Members not to put such questions on the Paper.
