HC Deb 19 March 1919 vol 113 c2063
1. Colonel YATE

asked the Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the statements regarding the deportation of Lajpat Rai and the account of his revolutionary crimes published in the Rowlatt Report; and, if so, will he now reconsider his offer to consider the matter of granting Lajpat Rai a passport to return from America on the signature of peace?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Herbert Fisher)

The Secretary of State is not prepared to give any undertaking that would impair his freedom of action in this matter.
