HC Deb 19 March 1919 vol 113 c2099
76. Mr. HAYDAY

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware of any profiteering in the supply of building materials; and whether, in view of the high prices now being charged, any consideration is being given to the advisability of fixing fair maximum prices?

Mr. KELLAWAY

No complaints of profiteering in the supply of building materials have reached the Ministry of Munitions. The matter is being carefully watched and the necessary action will at once betaken should it be found that exorbitant prices are being charged.

Mr. HAYDAY

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that since the withdrawal of control on the price of bricks in some areas they have gone up by 10s. a 1,000?

Mr. KELLAWAY

I was not aware of that. It is not consistent with my information.
