HC Deb 19 March 1919 vol 113 cc2065-6
9. Commander Viscount CURZON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether an inquiry can be instituted into the Battle of Jutland on the lines of the Trafalgar inquiry, which shall have access to all reports from all flag officers and all ships, all signal logs, operation orders, and logs, also any reliable information from enemy sources which may be available, and can issue an authentic Report for the information of the public?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY(Mr. Long)

Steps are already being taken to draw up from such sources of information as are enumerated in the question a narrative of the Battle of Jutland, showing the actual sequence of events, for the information of the Board and for purposes of record. The work has been in hand for some weeks. The question whether this narrative shall be issued to the public in advance of the Official Naval History of the War will be considered when the narrative has been completed.

Commander BELLAIRS

Can the right hon. Gentleman give any indication as to when the narrative will be completed?

Mr. LONG

I am afraid I could not.

Commander BELLAIRS

Will it be at an early date?

Mr. LONG

As soon as possible.
