HC Deb 12 March 1919 vol 113 cc1266-7
24. Viscount CURZON

asked the Minister of Labour how many officers of the Royal Navy, Royal Naval Reserve, and Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve have received employment through the Appointments Department of the Ministry of Labour; and what percentage of the total number of applicants does the figure represent?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Wardle)

The Ministry of Labour is co-operating with the Ministry of Shipping as to the placing of ex-naval officers requiring new appointments afloat. Twenty officers have applied for new appointments afloat, and twelve have been placed. Seven hundred and forty-four have applied for new appointments ashore (most of them very recent applications); of these forty-one have been placed. In addition, out of 2,816 applicants, 1,403, or 50 per cent., have been released in co-operation with the Ministry of Shipping, to resume their old appointments afloat.

Viscount CURZON

Could the hon. Gentleman state how many officers of the Royal Navy have received appointments since leaving the Service?

Mr. WARDLE

No; but, if the Noble Lord will put a question down, I will reply.
