HC Deb 06 March 1919 vol 113 cc586-7
73. Colonel W. THORNE

asked the Food Controller what action is being taken with regard to the attitude of the local authority in Highbridge in refusing to admit three Labour representatives on the local food control committee?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of FOOD (Mr. McCurdy)

There are already three Labour representatives on the Highbridge Food Control Committee who were members of the Committee previous to its reappointment in November last. Representations have been made to the Food Controller by local Labour organisations who take exception to the appointment of two of these Labour representatives, and complain that their nominees were not appointed to the committee. The Food Controller has addressed a letter to the Highbridge Urban District Council bringing these representations to their notice, and he will consider on receipt of a reply from the council what, if any, further action may be necessary on his part.
