HC Deb 03 March 1919 vol 113 c33
50. Lieutenant-Colonel SPENDER CLAY

asked the Prime Minister the number of men, women, and young persons who have been discharged from employment in Government offices since 11th November, 1918; and what steps are being taken to reduce the number at present employed?

Mr. BALDWIN

The numbers are not available in a collected form, and could only be ascertained by an exhaustive enquiry from the various Departments. Figures relating to reductions in various Departments have already been given in answer to questions, and I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that every effort is being made to disband the war emergency staffs as rapidly as the varying departmental circumstances permit.

Sir R. COOPER

Is it not a fact that these figures in every Department are kept up-to-date week by week and that it is no trouble to give them?

Mr. BALDWIN

I will make inquiry.
