HC Deb 03 March 1919 vol 113 cc2-3
1. Lieutenant-Colonel Sir JOHN NORTON GRIFFITHS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the extensive unemployment existing throughout the country amongst the workers in the building, public works, and allied trades, he will indicate when it is proposed to proceed with the various housing schemes, new roads, or other public utility works?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Major Astor)

Works of public utility are now in progress to a considerable extent, and every effort is being made to facilitate the commencement of other works of that character. The Local Government Board are making arrangements for expediting the preparation and execution of housing schemes, and their inspectors are conferring with the local authorities with a view to bringing into operation, as rapidly as possible, schemes of public utility calculated to provide employment.

Mr. TYSON WILSON

Can the hon. and gallant Gentleman say whether they are releasing any material?

Major ASTOR

Questions with regard to material should be addressed to the Minister of Munitions.
