HC Deb 30 June 1919 vol 117 c615
84. Lieut.-Colonel PINKHAM

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he intends to allow the local authorities to expend public funds for Peace celebrations on similar lines as were allowed at the Coronation festivities; and to what extent?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Major Astor)

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend is issuing to-day the Orders sanctioning reasonable expenditure by local authorities in connection with public local celebrations of Peace.

Mr. BILLING

Will the hon. Gentleman consider the advisability of recommending all these authorities that the finest Peace celebrations upon which they can spend their money will be the building of their first house?
