HC Deb 30 June 1919 vol 117 c592
13. Major NEWMAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is the percentage of the increased cost of a suit of workman's clothes and of a pair of workman's boots, comparing current with pre-war prices, due to the rise in wool, leather, and other raw material, and to the advance in wages, respectively?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Inquiry is being made, but the hon. and gallant Member will no doubt recognise the extreme difficulties of arriving at any close estimate.

Mr. ALFRED DAVIES (Clitheroe)

Will the hon. Gentleman include profits in addition to wages and the increased cost of material?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

It would be necessary to include that in order to arrive at any conclusion at all.

Major NEWMAN

When will the result of the inquiry be made known?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I cannot give any date.
