HC Deb 26 June 1919 vol 117 cc323-4
48. Mr. GEORGE THORNE

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the discovery of oil in the Midlands, he will state to the House what steps, if any, the Government has taken or proposes to take in order to secure that this new source of national wealth shall be conserved for the nation?

The DEPUTY-MINISTER of MUNITIONS (Mr. Kellaway)

I have been asked to reply to this question. I would direct my hon. Friend's attention to the announcement made to the House on Tuesday night, that a Committee has been appointed to advise the Minister on this subject. As soon as their Report is received, His Majesty's Government will take such action as the circumstances require.

Mr. G. TERRELL

Could the hon. Gentleman state the names of the members of this Committee?

Mr. KELLAWAY

No, Sir, but as soon as the Committee has been set up I will give the names.
