HC Deb 29 July 1919 vol 118 cc1911-2
10. Captain BAGLEY

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he can now stale that all Regulations in regard to demobilisation of Derby men will apply equally to those who are recorded as having submitted themselves for attestation, but were medically rejected, and afterwards called up under the Military Service Act?

Captain GUEST

I regret that after careful consideration I am unable to include the men referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend in the scheme adopted for the release of men who attested under the Derby scheme.

Captain BAGLEY

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that there was a considerable difference of procedure when recruits were appointed under the Derby scheme? In some districts they were examined before attestation, and others after, so that men in some districts who were rejected by the doctors were not included as Derby recruits

Captain GUEST

Yes, Sir; it is fully appreciated by the War Office that the case of these men appears to be a hard one, but it was necessary to draw the line somewhere and deal with other cases before these.
