HC Deb 21 July 1919 vol 118 c895
68. Major PRESCOTT

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether he is aware that fifty- seven acres of land are being cultivated as allotments on the White Hart Lane (Tottenham) estate of the London County Council; whether he is also aware that the County Council have submitted a lay-out scheme for the approval of the Ministry of Health to develop the whole of this estate for building purposes; and what, if any, undertaking has been given by the county authority to provide alternative allotments by making provision for their new tenants to have an adequate plot of ground to cultivate in connection with their proposed town-planning scheme?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

The Board are aware that the land referred to by my hon. Friend, which was acquired originally for housing purposes, has been let for allotments pending development. They are advised that the London County Council have submitted to the Ministry of Health a scheme for laying out this land, and they have been informed that a majority of the new houses will probably be occupied by allotment holders. It is not anticipated that more than two or three rods of garden ground will be available for each house, but the Council state that they have under consideration the question of acquiring land for allotments.
