HC Deb 14 July 1919 vol 118 cc31-2
79 Mr. G. MURRAY

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the shortage of houses in the Clyde vicinity, the Government will consider making immediate use of the houses, estimated at 3,000, included in the Georgetown filling factory area?

80 Mr. MACQUISTEN

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether the factories at Georgetown are shut and whether they are to be reopened; whether there are houses, several thousands in number, with all modern conveniences, which people will gladly rent and the letting of which will mitigate the present housing shortage; and whether he will take steps to have these houses made immediately available?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Churchill)

I have been asked to reply. The National Filling Factory at Georgetown has been taken over by the War Department for use as an Army Ordnance Depot for North Britain. The number of houses in the area is about 120, and these will be required for occupation by the personnel to be employed by the War Department at the depot.

Dr. D. MURRAY

How long will the factory be required for Army purposes?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I think for a long time.
