HC Deb 26 February 1919 vol 112 cc1711-2
44. Lieutenant-Colonel DALRYMPLE WHITE

asked the Minister of Labour whether articled clerks who enlisted subsequently to 1st January, 1916, are not now permitted to be demobilised; and, if so, whether any exception can be made in the case of young men who have to pursue their studies to prepare for examination?

Mr. PRATT (Lord of the Treasury)

The Instructions issued by the Army Council in fulfilment of the Government's decision as to the Armies of Occupation do not admit of any exception being made in favour of particular occupations. Articled clerks who joined for service after 1st January, 1916, will therefore be retained in the Armies of Occupation, unless they are eligible for demobilisation under those Instructions.
