HC Deb 15 December 1919 vol 123 cc38-9
75. Major M'KENZIE WOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether the office of Paymaster-General is an office of profit under the Crown included in Schedule H of 30 and 31 Vict., c. 102; and, if so, whether he will state on what grounds the right hon. Member for the Brightside Division of Sheffield has not vacated his seat on his appointment as Paymaster-General and submitted himself for re-election to this House?

THE PRIME MINISTER

It is true that the office of Paymaster-General is an office of profit included in the Schedule referred to in the question, but that fact does not involve the necessity of re-election upon appointment. On the contrary, by the express terms of 35 and 36 Vict., c. 44, Section (iv.), there is no such necessity in the case of the particular office.
