HC Deb 08 December 1919 vol 122 cc1088-9

Order for Second Reading read.

Sir G. HEWART

I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read a second time." This is in no sense a contentious measure. It is approved by Judges of the High Court, by County Court Judges, and by the Law Society. It provides for a certain extension of the powers of the County Court. it is a remarkable fact that since the Act of 1888 there has been no considerable amending Act of Parliament to extend the jurisdiction of the County Court. The present Bill supplies that need. I do not think it is necessary to enter into the many details of the Bill, but I simply move the Second Reading.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill accordingly read a second time.

Resolved, That this House will immediately resolve itself into the Committee on the Bill.—[Sir G. Hewart.]

Bill accordingly considered in Committee.
