HC Deb 14 April 1919 vol 114 c2473
14. Colonel BURN

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will recommend the remuneration of the owners of trawlers whose vessels were sunk by enemy action, whose insurance at pre-war value falls considerably short of the cost of building a new boat at present-day prices?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

If my hon. and gallant Friend refers to the trawlers insured in the Government war risks insurance scheme for fishing vessels, I fear that the only answer I can give is that the amounts paid to the owners, in respect of trawlers sunk through war risks, are in accordance with the conditions of the insurance policies, and the Government cannot make any addition to the amounts paid on the ground that the cost of replacement is greater than the amount insured for.
