43. Major BOYD-CARPENTER

asked the Minister of Labour whether persons who are and have been in receipt of Poor Law relief for many years are entitled to receive also the out-of-work donation; whether he is aware that in various parts of the country recipients of out-door relief are Being paid concurrently the out-of-work donation; and whether any steps can be taken to stop this double payment in future?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Robert Home)

It has been brought to my notice that, following the custom of the distributon of unemployment benefit under Part II. of the National Insurance Act, out-of-work donation and out-door relief may be paid concurrently. I am taking steps, in consultation with the Local Government Board, to have this position reviewed.
