HC Deb 14 April 1919 vol 114 c2498
72. Brigadier-General CROFT

asked the Minister of Labour whether aliens residing in this country receive unemployed donations?

Sir R. HORNE

Aliens (other than British-born wives of aliens) are not eligible for out-of-work donation unless they are entitled to claim it on the ground of service with His Majesty's Forces.

Sir H. DALZIEL

Who is the authority superintending the expenditure of this money? Is he aware that there is a very general public opinion that there is a scandal going on in regard to these donations?

Sir R. HORNE

I am afraid I am the authority, and I am quite aware of the amount of trouble there is in connection with it.

Sir H. DALZIEL

Will my right hon. Friend undertake to have a few hours' discussion on it before the House adjourns for Easter?

Sir R. HORNE

I am afraid that is not in my hands.

Sir H. DALZIEL

Will the right hon. Gentleman represent the view put forward to the Leader of the House, and try to press the matter on him?
