HC Deb 14 April 1919 vol 114 cc2484-5
41. Major Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty if he can give the date when Admiral Jerram's Report will be published?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

No decision has been taken regarding the publication of the Report. Perhaps I may add that the Committee of the Board appointed to consider the Jerram Committee's recommendations completed its work in time for a special meeting of the Board to be held last Friday. Another meeting will be held this afternoon. Immediately the Board's decisions are taken, we shall forward them to the War Cabinet, calling attention to their urgency.

Sir B. FALLE

Will the right hon. Gentleman give me any assurance that we shall have this Report before the House meets again?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I should like to be able to do that, but it is for the War Cabinet. The matter is not in my hands. The question should be addressed to the Leader of the House.

Lieutenant-Colonel C. MALONE

Will that Report include a resumé of the evidence of the Committee, and will the right hon. Gentleman give an explanation of any Resolutions that have not been accepted?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The publication of the Report has not been decided. That, amongst other things, the Board will consider.

Rear-Admiral Sir REGINALD HALL

Will the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to inform the House as to the composition of the Committee of the Board of Admiralty that is considering the Jerram Report?

Dr. MACNAMARA

It has finished its work. The Committee consisted of the First Sea Lord, the Second Sea Lord, the Fourth Sea Lord, the Permanent Secretary, and myself.

Viscount CURZON

Will the Report deal with officers as well as men?

Dr. MACNAMARA

No, this will deal exclusively with the ratings. We hope to have from Admiral Jerram the Report on officers and the decision shortly.
