HC Deb 10 April 1919 vol 114 cc2190-1
16. Mr. GRATTON DOYLE

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether representations have been made to him by the citizens of Redcar for the formation of a separate petty sessional division for Redcar and district in view of the inconvenience which arises from the present system; whether his attention has been called to the fact that frequently there are Courts held at Redcar without the magistrates having the assistance of a magistrate's clerk; and whether the Secretary of State, in view of the discontent recently expressed, will represent to the Standing Joint Committee of the North Riding the need of a revision of the petty sessional area?

The UNDERSECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir Hamar Greenwood)

My right hon. Friend has received a representation on the subject from Redcar. The matter is one in which he has no statutory authority to intervene, but as the justices for the division in which Redcar is now included have informed him that they will welcome any suggestion for the improvement of the administration of justice, he is sending the representation to them for their consideration.
