HC Deb 10 April 1919 vol 114 c2206
43. Mr. BRIANT

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can say why, considering the duty of assisting the recovery of the industries of Belgium, only 90,000 gross of boxes of matches per month is allowed to be imported from that country, whilst 290,000 are permitted from Scandinavia; and if he will take steps to see that our Ally has at least equal privileges with a neutral country?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Having regard to the capacity of Belgium as compared with that of Scandinavia to export matches to this country, I do not think that the ration accorded places Belgium under any disadvantage in this matter.
