34. Mr. STANTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will consider the advisability of immediately making all diseases of animals that are communicable to human beings compulsorily notifiable, and of providing adequate compensation to be paid subsequent to any action that may in the public interest be determined; and if he will consider that in any scheme of national reconstruction there shall be provided a public abattoir for every urban district, and that in every district powers should be granted to the local authority to compulsorily close private slaughter-houses?

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he will consider the necessity of immediately making all diseases of animals that are communicable to human beings compulsorily notifiable, and of providing adequate compensation to be paid subsequent to any action that may in the public interest be determined; and whether, in any scheme of national reconstruction, he will consider the desirability of providing a public abattoir for every urban district, and of granting in every such district powers to the local authority to compulsorily close private slaughterhouses?

Questions relating to the notification of diseases of animals and as to providing compensation are dealt with by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries. In regard to the group of diseases mentioned, I will confer with my right hon. Friend. The question of providing public slaughter houses is under consideration.
