HC Deb 31 October 1918 vol 110 cc1608-9
69. Sir WATSON CHEYNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State to the Air Ministry whether the principles laid down in the Medical Advisory Committee's Report, 1917, are now being carried into practice; and what progress has been made?

Major BAIRD

A reorganisation of the medical arrangements of the Royal Air Force is now being considered in connection with the appointment of a successor to the medical administrator.

Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

Does that mean that the Medical Administration Committee which was established in consequence of my hon. Friend's Report has now been done away with?

Major BAIRD

This Committee under the new arrangement will not be administrative, but will carry out advisory functions.

70. Sir W. CHEYNE

asked whether the medical administrator of the Air Service has resigned; if so, why; and what arrangements are being made in regard to a successor?

Major BAIRD

The resignation of the medical administrator originated in a difference of opinion between himself and the Medical Administrative Committee in regard to their respective spheres of responsibility. The appointment of his successor will be made public at an early date.

Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

Has this appointment been offered to any officer at present?

Major BAIRD

The appointment is under consideration, and an announcement will be made.
