HC Deb 31 October 1918 vol 110 c1612
88. Mr. WILES

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the discontent existing among the members of the London telephone staff owing to the unsatisfactory conditions of employment, which have led to a number of resignations; and whether, instead of appealing to subscribers not to make full use of the telephone service, he will hold an impartial inquiry into the administration of this Department?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I am aware that a number of resignations have occurred. They are due to various causes. An increase of pay has been awarded by the Conciliation and Arbitration Board, and a claim for an increased war bonus is at present under consideration by the board. All reasonable complaints are carefully inquired into, and a deputation has been received by my right hon. Friend the Assistant Postmaster-General.
