§ 37. RUPERT GWYNNEasked the President of the Board of Trade whether the International Paint and Compositions Company, Limited, of Newcastle-on-Tyne and London, was formerly known as Holzapfel, Limited; whether the managing director is Mr. Bertie Ward, 2887 formerly Mr. A. G. Holzapfel, and one of the directors is Mr. Theodore Ward, formerly Mr. Theodore Holzapfel; whether these gentlemen have changed their names by deed poll; and whether he is satisfied that the firm is now thoroughly purged of any alien taint?
Sir A. STANLEYThe answer to the first three parts of this question is in the affirmative. I am informed that all the shares held by enemies in the International Paint and Compositions Company, Limited, have been sold by the Public Trustee and that the great majority of the shares previously held by naturalised British subjects of enemy origin have been purchased from them by British-born subjects, the interest of such naturalised British subjects now being less than 6 per cent. of the capital of the company.
