HC Deb 12 November 1918 vol 110 c2486
51. Colonel YATE

asked the Prime Minister what decision has been arrived at by the Cabinet Committee regarding increased allowances to the wives, children, and dependants of officers?

Mr. BONAR LAW

This matter has been carefully considered by the Cabinet Committee, and I regret that it has not been found possible to make any increase in the allowances referred to.

Colonel YATE

Does not my right hon. Friend realise that the officers deserve the same increase as the men?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Yes, I fully realise that. I feel as strongly as my hon. and gallant Friend that whatever was given to the men should be given to the officers. This decision was arrived at on that basis.
