HC Deb 12 November 1918 vol 110 c2492
53. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Prime Minister what obligations the oath of allegiance imposes on Civil servants; if he is aware that various trade union bodies in Ireland have passed resolutions against the taking of it under compulsion; and if he will have the order withdrawn or made optional for Civil servants to take?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The obligation of the oath of allegiance in this case is precisely the same as in the case of a Member of Parliament.
