HC Deb 05 November 1918 vol 110 c1939
60. Mr. ADAMSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any consideration has been given to the position of the Civil Service and other pensioners whose pensions, being on a pre-war basis, are inadequate to meet the present cost of living; and whether, in view of the hardship now being suffered, he will appoint a Committee to inquire into this matter and make recommendations at an early date?

Mr. BALDWIN

I regret that, for reasons which have been frequently stated in the House by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer and myself, I am unable to accept this suggestion.
