HC Deb 04 November 1918 vol 110 c1770
82. Sir ARTHUR FELL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if any and what special pay or allowance is granted to officers who have contracted tuberculosis by exposure on active service and who, after a period of treatment, have been retired from the Army on half-pay as totally unfit even for light duty; how such officers are to pay for the further special treatment and diet necessary; and why they should not have special Grants as in the case of officers who have lost a limb on active service, but who are not so incapacitated for light work and do not require special diet?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Forster)

Officers retired from the Army, whether for tuberculosis or other causes, are dealt with by the Ministry of Pensions as stated in reply to the hon. Member's question of the 31st October. I understand the question to refer to officers who have not been retired from the Army, but are on the half-pay list. Such officers receive a special grant of three guineas a week towards the cost of treatment for tuberculosis.

General CROFT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how long this will continue?

Mr. FORSTER

I am afraid I cannot without notice.
