HC Deb 11 March 1918 vol 104 c31
40. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food if he will state what steps, if any, his Department has taken to prevent the licensed traders of Ireland being robbed of their supply of whisky by profiteering wine merchants and distillers in the North of Ireland who are endeavouring to export their stocks?

Mr. CLYNES

The Food Controller has been in consultation with the trade and with the Central Control Board (Liquor Traffic) for the purpose of securing a more satisfactory adjustment of the prices and distribution of whisky, but there are considerable difficulties in the way of settling a satisfactory scheme.
